Undertakings are an established feature of the legal landscape. The courts have recognised them as vital in conveyancing transactions and of much wider application. Discussion usually focusses on what a serious business it is for the party giving an undertaking and what the consequences of breach might. Less often explored is the recipient’s perspective.
